I know, it’s not often I have a robot.txt file in my inbox, but I do. It’s the one file that, for some reason, I am always looking for on my computer, and I have no idea why. (Okay, maybe I have one of these files that I am trying to delete, but then I delete all my other robot.txt files).

I just came across a new one like this. I have a feeling I am about to encounter a lot more of these.

Yep, a robot.txt file. You know what they say about robots: they are like the little robots in the Terminator movie. They are evil. They are killing machines. So, you know, we will continue to look for robots.txt files on every web page you visit. It just seems to me that if we are robots, then robots.txt files should be a no-no. It is not a good thing to have a robot.txt file in your HTML file.

That’s because robots.txt files are very hard to remove from sites that you don’t want them to be on, and even if you have robots.txt files in your HTML file, they can still be seen by people who do not want them to be on your site. So, you need to make sure that the robots.txt file on your site is only being used for robots.

Robots.txt files should be a no-no. The name I’ve given them is Robotic.txt, and if you have robots.txt files in your HTML file, they should be used for robots.

So, Google doesn’t always index your site and just see the robots.txt file, so if you want your site to be indexed, you have to make sure it isnt being used for robots.txt files.

The robots.txt file should not be a part of your HTML files. That means it should not be in the root of your domain. Google has a rule about this that lets it know the file is not to be included in your HTML files. If you put robots.txt in the root of your domain it will only index the files under robots.txt. If you put it in the sub directories though, Google will index all the files.

Now, I know what you’re thinking: “Oh, page 1 and page 2, and page 3, and page 4 can be indexed, but page 5 can’t. It’s out of order.” This is not the case. Page 5 is just a random page. As long as you have your robots.txt file, pages 1-4 will be indexed, and pages 5-8 will not.
